This might be the most based use of AI ever. Singapore has a serious dengue problem, so it came up with a ridiculous-sounding solution: breed and release more than 10 million mosquitoes every week.
But there’s a catch. These are specially bred male Aedes mosquitoes carrying Wolbachia. When they mate with wild females, their eggs don’t hatch.
Here’s where AI comes in:
• AI-powered cameras rapidly inspect millions of mosquitoes and separate males from females.
• Any females that slip through get sterilized with low-dose X-rays.
